The Alliance recently assisted the City of Waukee with an extension of a RISE grant award for Alice’s Road Crossing. The extension was necessary because of the economic downturn, as the planned roadway infrastructure construction has been delayed. In the City’s request for extension, the new projected letting date was projected for September 2013.
The Iowa Department of Transportation has granted the City two consecutive six-month extensions, making the new letting date deadline January of 2014. The IDOT stated that this is a very unusual approval of extension, and if the City of Waukee cannot meet the new deadline of January 2014, the City should consider rescinding the funds provided by the RISE grant award. If this would happen, there would be no penalty to the City, and reapplication in the future would be an option.
